DENVER, Colorado — Well, well, well, if it isn’t the Centennial State upping its game! This week the Colorado government officially released the new design for its driver’s license… and it’s pretty spiffy.
The front of the new card will now feature a picture of Mount Sneffels, which is in the San Juan Mountain Range west of Ouray and north of Telluride. The back of the new card will showcase Sprague Lake in the Rocky Mountain National Park near Estes Park.

In order to choose a new design, the state held an “Iconic Colorado” contest, challenging artists to make the driver’s license the most beautiful in the world. If selected, two artists win a $500 grant. It received 407 submissions from 119 people.
The Colorado DMV says, “Three finalists were selected by a committee that included motor vehicle administrators, artists, and Gov. Polis. with a final, public vote on the top three designs.”
The winners: Matt Nunez (front design winning artist) and Gabriel Dupon, (back design winning artist.)
