CPW Officer Rescues Marmot Family

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado— Newborn animals are keeping Colorado Parks and Wildlife busy!

Lately, the team has been responding to calls for various elk and moose reports, but this time, it was a group of rodents. Not just any rodent though—adorable marmots.

Wildlife Officer Travis Sauder arrived at a commercial building to find a yellow-bellied marmot nesting with her five babies underneath the structure.

Marmots are large ground squirrels that can typically be found in the Pike’s Peak region, above the tree line at 11,500 feet.

CPW says these sneaky little guys are known for stowing away in cars visiting Pike’s Peak, then ending up in nearby towns.

Officer Sauder was able to safely relocate the marmot family back to Pike’s Peak.
